Margaret and Spence Gosenson retired and moved to Ventura in July of 2017. After visiting several different churches, they decided to call ENCOUNTER home and immediately looked for ways to get connected. They both joined Bible studies and fellowship groups, but were looking for something more.
Margaret is passionate about prayer and it is the way she is called to serve. In 1997, she survived a traumatic event where she was caught in the crossfire of a gang initiation. The result of that event became a pivotal experience for her spiritual life. She surrendered to God and made herself available to serve wherever He needed her. Margaret knew God had answered her brother’s prayer for 12 years that her life would be transformed to bring her into a relationship with Christ.
It was clear to her that prayer is a way of loving others well. Margaret joined a prayer group that she was a part of for 7 years, where others prayed with her, prayed for her, and mentored her. She has attended numerous training’s and prayer conferences, always looking for ways to expand her prayer life.
It only seemed natural that she would serve as an intercessor at ENCOUNTER. In February, Margaret and Spence, along with Nolan and Kitty Allen, launched the Mercy Seat Prayer Group. The group meets twice a month to pray for the ENCOUNTER lead team, staff, global workers, church family, and surrounding community. The prayer support has been a tremendous blessing and source of encouragement for the entire staff.
Mercy Seat Prayer Group meets on the first and third Mondays at 2 pm. If you’d like to join them, contact Clare Rice.
