In Community

Jake and Michelle Waggoner moved from College Station, Texas to Ventura in June 2017 with their two sons, Jackson (4) and Everett (almost 3). Jake spent his first 15 years in the Navy on an underwater construction team and is now part of the Civil Engineer Corp at Port Hueneme base. Michelle grew up in a military family moving frequently, but calls Clearwater, Florida home.

When the Waggoners arrived, they began searching for a preschool and found ENCOUNTER. Michelle shared the process of being new to a church and finding relationships.

After one visit to the church service, we decided we found our church home and preschool. We attended NEXT, a meet and greet in The Living room for new comers. Pastor Mark connected us with a Dinner 4-8 group and the leaders quickly made us feel like old friends.

There are so many communities within the church that have provided us numerous opportunities to get plugged in. From MOPS to the prayer meeting and now my small women’s group, I know God has orchestrated this community of women that I get to do life with here in Ventura. I have met incredible women who are transparent, loving and hold me accountable.

Recently, Jacob attended the men’s group and left feeling encouraged and refreshed. He went in a little apprehensive, but found himself at a table full of young dads and professionals who were in the same chapter of life. We also attended the Marriage Workshop and learned so much about communication and growing our marriage as God has intended. We are so excited to see what God has in store for us here at ENCOUNTER!
