In Community, Groups, Serving, Volunteers

At ENCOUNTER we value “engaging the world” meaning as Christ followers, our focus turns outward to the world around us – people who really need Jesus. One way we share the love of Jesus is by serving others. This year the Care Ministry participated in ACTION’s Serve Day, a county-wide event that brings acts of service to those in need. It came to the attention of the Care Ministry that a member of ENCOUNTER named Barbara was under pressure to paint her home to be in compliance with her HOA. Since she was unable to afford the cost of professional painting, it was decided that we would send a team to paint her home for our Serve Day Project. The ENCOUNTER Young Professional Women’s Group took the lead and organized the project, recruited volunteers and painted Barbara’s home.

This act of service carried out over the course of one Saturday ministered love, encouragement and care to Barbara and to all those involved.

You don’t need to paint a house to show your neighbor the love of Jesus. If you are interested in finding a way to serve in our city, consider serving with ACTION (Area Christians Taking Initiative On Needs). They connect those with the heart to serve with needs in the community. Those served are senior, disabled or under-resourced individuals. Typical projects include yard work and minor household repairs. If you or your group would like to serve with ACTION, go to their website or email .
